The match number 43 is between two under performing sides Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. RCB have zero chances of reaching the next stage of the tournament and they need to pick few wins in the final phases of the group stage to avoid a humiliating 8th position. On the other hand, Glenn Maxwell led Punjab side will be looking to make it to the next round by plundering two points from the hosts.
Head to head:
These sides have met 18 times, and the Punjab franchise has an edge over the hosts with a 10-8 record.
Players to watch out for:
Royal Challengers Bangalore:
Virat Kohli: The RCB captain has not had the best of the IPL editions this time. His side was humiliated against KKR as they were bowled out for just 49. He could not help but watch his team falter. With a mind boggling season last time, Virat has definitely failed to emulate his last season’s performance. Virat has the ability to do wonders for his side, but luck has not been kind to him. He can turn dangerous any moment. KXIP must remove him as soon as possible to limit the damage.
AB de Villiers: Like his captain, Ab is going through a low in his IPL career. Bowlers have been able to stump him before he could hit a few balls over the boundary rope. Known for his inventive cricketing shots, hopes are placed heavily on the Proteas batsman to harness his abilities and get a few points to avoid a miserable season. If RCB are to climb a position or two on the table, they have to bet on him.
Kings XI Punjab:
Glenn Maxwell: The Aussie all-rounder has lead the team from the front with few exceptional performances. Though he has not been able to stay at the crease for longer overs, he has caused enough destruction. He has also been bowling a few overs and in the game versus SRH, he was the most economical bowler. Also being a fantastic fielder, Maxwell will be hoping to salvage his team from the bottom half of the table.
Manan Vohra: Though not having a notable series of games, his batting abilities can not be doubted. Being one of the emerging batsmen, Vohra’s form has been undulating since his IPL debut in 2013. Accruing 95 in one innings of this IPL, he has registered his highest individual total. If he can dodge past the 10th over mark, we can speculate a total nothing short of the 180 mark.
With a strike rate of 155, Vohra is having the best ever conversion rate compared to the earlier editions.
Ab de Villiers is having the worst strike rate since 2011 edition of the IPL.
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Kohli (c), Gayle, de Villiers, Mandeep, Jadhav (wk), Binny, Negi, Milne, Badree, Aravind, Chahal.
