Mumbai Indians will be traveling to the nation’s capital and square off against the Delhi Daredevils for the 45th match of the Vivo IPL 2017. Mumbai, already having qualified for the play-offs would definitely look to win the remaining games in order to fancy a table top finish. Delhi suffered five straight losses and they are back on track with two back to back wins. They have very little chances of making it to the knockout phase of the tournament, but a win today would definitely animate them to put a big fight in upcoming fixtures.
Head to head:
Both sides have contested 19 times, Mumbai Indians have a tenuous 10-9 lead over the Delhi Daredevils.
Players to watch out for:
Rishabh Pant: The teen has taken this IPL by storm, especially his last innings of 97 versus the Gujarat Lions was simply enchanting. It will take just a few months for him to don the blue jersey with these kind of performances. He has not been consistent with the bat, but when he has set himself, he goes massive. If the DD batsmen are to make him feel comfortable with a good partnership, he will once again try to redo the last game’s heroics.
Chris Morris: Chris Morris, who was benched for the last game, is expected to add strength to the Daredevils. Having picked 12 wickets and scored 154 runs in 9 games, he has been pretty good as an all-rounder. He might light the Ferozh Shah Kotla with his performance if the situation requires him to. Having a redoubtable strike rate of 163, the prospects of him facing a few balls could change the course of the game.
Kieron Pollard: The Trinidad born all-rounder is one of the names that cannot evade the list of biggest hitters of the game. He is a threat if he is in the field, be it batting or bowling or fielding. With tremendous agility , he has pulled many stunning catches near the rope and has saved many runs for his side. He can sometimes be really intimidating at the death overs, picking up wickets. His batting needs no introduction. Though having not hit exceptionally well, he can turn massive anytime.
Jasprit Bumrah: After a great last season, Bumrah’s career has been on an escalation. He has made his way into the national side for the limited editions and moreover has cemented his spot as the death specialist. Batsmen utterly struggle to score runs off his deliveries. His block hole deliveries have left the batsmen wondering. Delhi must be aiming to score 8+ RPO in his spells to see any chances of winning today’s clash.
Rishabh Pant has the second highest strike rate of all the batsmen in this IPL, 175.62.
MI are yet to win a game at Delhi since 2011.
Malinga has never failed to pick a wicket in his 11 meetings with DD.
