Big Bash 2016, Melbourne Stars, Preview

Melbourne Stars the team name itself define’s what they have been for BBL “Stars” . The most consistent team of BBL till date. They have qualified for quarter finals every-time in BBL history. Though they have never won a single title till now ending up as runner ups last season this season captain David Hussey will eye to win first title for Melbourne Stars.

Squad : David Hussey (captain), Michael Beer, Scott Boland, Jackson Coleman, James Faulkner, Sebastian Gotch, Evan Gulbis, Peter Handscomb, Sam Harper, Ben Hilfenhaus, Glenn Maxwell, Kevin Pietersen (OS), Rob Quiney, Marcus Stoinis, Tom Triffitt, Daniel Worrall, Luke Wright (OS), Adam Zampa

Captain : David Hussey

Overseas : Luke Wright , Kevin Pietersen

Strengths : Overseas duo from England in form of Luke Wright and Kevin Pietersen these two can destroy any bowling attack and presence of Glenn Maxwell , Marcus Stoinis and David Hussey to support them. This is a team which will score 170+ every time they come out to bat. It is the only team which has same base of players from past 2 years which gives them a better bonding and understanding among players.

Weakness : It is hard to find a weakness in such a top class squad though the absence of certain players throughout the tournament will hurt them. Handscomb will not be available for first half of the tournament due to his presence in Australian test squad and after that Glenn Maxwell and James Faulkner are set to miss later half of the tournament as they are expected to be a part of Australian ODI squad which will take on Pakistan.

Kevin Pietersen inventor of Switch Hit. Veteran from England is one of the most consistent and aggressive batsmen across the globe. You must have seen him commentating in South Africa vs Australia test series but at the same time he was part of Dolphins ( CSA t20 franchise) where he scored 198 runs in 5 innings at an impressive strike rate of 150.

Young gun
Sam Harper 20 year old wicket keeper batsmen from Victoria made a name for himself in this year’s metador cup where he played few cruisial knocks for CAXI. He is very aggresive behind the stumps and is very attacking with bat though he may find hard to find a place in playing XI but if he gets a chance he will surely make full use of it.

Last year finish
2nd (Runner up’s)
