Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Gujarat Lions at the Green Park, Kanpur, to learn their fate. A win for the Sunrisers would place them into the play-offs and put pressure on Rising Pune Supergiant and Kings XI Punjab, especially. SRH could have cemented their place in the play-offs had they won their earlier game versus Pune. Gujarat Lions will play for mere pride as the upshot of the game will not affect their position in the standings and they will end the season in 7th place.
SRH must be in high spirits after defeating the table toppers, Mumbai Indians in their last game. Meanwhile, Gujarat were deflated by a Shreyas Iyer’s 96 in their last game against DD. The biggest strength of the Sunrisers side is their opening pair. Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner are going along very well together as they have aggregated a massive score of 985 this season. The Lions would be definitely planning to remove these openers very soon, in order to maximize their chances of victory. The middle order containing Kane Williamson, Moises Henriques, Yuvraj Singh are all terrific hitters but they have not done really well if the Warner-Dhawan duo fail to lay a platform. It is obvious that the Lions have a very good chance of a victory if they stump the openers soon. Yuvraj and Williamson, build the play very slowly, and once they are good, they start banging. We witnessed that against the Delhi Daredevils and Rising Pune Supergiant, with Williamson and Yuvraj hitting ferociously in the respective fixtures. SRH’s lower order did not have any real batting chance, but versus RPS, where they stumbled and lost the game. The tailenders paved way for the third hat-trick of the season, much to the delight of Jaydev Unadkat.
The Gujarat Lions batting lineup looks awe inspiring with the likes of Dwayne Smith, Brendon McCullum, Suresh Raina and Aaron FInch. The aforementioned names need zero introduction. Finch has a tremendous strike rate of 168 this season. Raina is synonymous to the adjective “consistency”, as he has accrued 400 plus runs a season yet again. Despite an intimidating batting lineup, they need to be well wary of the SRH’s bowlers. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar is at his very best every game. Mohammed Nabi and Rashid Khan are all proving their worth, with the former producing an inspiring performance against MI. His bowling was so fantastic that he conceded only 13 runs in his 4 overs. Nitish Rana, Parthiv Patel, Rohit Sharma were all dismissed by Siddharth Kaul, although very fickle, is starting to become more dangerous.
Gujarat rely heavily on the top four batsmen and the Sunrisers hope their opening partnership fires and the bowling spearheaded by Bhuvaneshwar Kumar will take them over the line.
